Rate-A-Restaurant, #122 in a series

Restaurant: Milk

Location: 7290 Beverly Blvd. (Fairfax/LaBrea)

Type of restaurant: Sandwiches and high-end ice cream

They stipulated: Be patient -- and don't pay attention to everything on the menu just yet. Some things, like the soy milk ice cream, aren't yet available. And the website, www.themilkshop.com, isn't yet up and running.

We stipulated: It was time for another business lunch, and we were looking for something different. And something that screamed dessert.

What we ordered: Herb Roasted Chicken Breast hot pressed sandwich ($8.25): with fresh mozzarella, portobello mushrooms, 24-hour tomoatoes and pesto sauce. Also, coffee toffee crunch ice cream sandwich ($2.50)

High point: The ice cream sandwich's cookie was actually an airy, chewy macaron cookie -- just like the small macarons you find at Boule. Yum. Also, love the 25 cent bonbons -- one of the best deals in town. They come in several flavors, and are a nice way to spend your pocket change (below).

Low point: Still a lot of kinks to iron out in the service. We waited quite a while at the cash register before someone finally took our order. And I ordered my sandwich to eat in, but they delivered it for me to go. Fine -- I then asked them for a plate to put it on. They freaked out and pulled my sandwich away -- leaving me hungry for several more minutes.

Overall impression: I love the idea of Milk -- milkshakes like the Milkie Way Malt and the Espresso a la Mode put a smile on my face -- and hopefully will more so when I finally try them. Disappointed that the service left much to be desired.

Chance we will go back: Must try the Coffee Toffee Crunch Shake.

Well, the kinks are out, the shelves are full and there is always a line. Haven't tried anything that wasn't wonderful, keep going back for the ever-changing soups and fig/date scones. I keep bringing friends and tasting bites of whatever they order so I get to try lots and lots. A must go!
